Class Discussion - Formula for Communication

This afternoon we revised our brainstorm ideas about COMMUNICATION....WE played a game of Chinese Whispers to illustrate what we need in order to communicate. We found that we need: A MESSAGE, we need to SEND the message, the message needs to be DECODED, and then it needs to be received by the RECEIVER. We played the game two times and each time the message ended differently. We realised it is important that it needs to be understood. We talked more about what communication looks like, and we think that a message can be sent through a variety of ways, e.g. body language, pictures, words, letters, texts, phonecalls, voice calls, voice messages etc...WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MORE...... Teacher News!!!

This week at our latest teacher meeting we were reminded about what "effects" our classrooms the most - If you would like more information, google; John Hattie - Visible learning. We looked at several things, like;
We had to rank which were most important from 1 being MOST important to 12 LEAST important. Obviously those ranked from 1 to 6 were ranked as the things that will most likely make a positive change in your child's learning in school. I LIKE THE RESULTS: THE TOP THREE THINGS THAT CAUSE THE MOST POSITIVE CHANGE IN A CLASSROOM ARE;
1, STUDENT EXPECTATIONS 2, CLASSROOM DISCUSSION 3,FEEDBACK Come in some time and have a chat about this, it's wonderful news. Leave a positive comment if you like. Thank you

Maori Television ; KORERO MAI

Kia Ora Whanau ! There are some amazing Te Reo Maori language programmes out there, one of them broadcasts through your own television or you can use your internet to view it.

Take a look at the youtube link, this was taken in 2004 by a Kohanga Reo in London we believe according to the post. Learn along with us. One day we might include our Kowhai team performing this waiata....keep posted, WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!! Whaea Liz

Korero Mai

This is the second week of the holidays. I have been watching "MAORI TELEVISION" they have an awesome Maori language programme that teaches te reo Maori in an interactive way. Today they taught Toia Mai - the haka.
Interesting things to know about KORERO MAI that are similar to what we learn in class: They teach kupu hou. They teach commands. They teach waiata and haka. Two things we can do in our class similar to Korero Mai: Role play. Watch this space!

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

Ko tenei te wiki tuatahi mo nga hararei: This is the first week of the July school holidays. Whaea Liz is looking into our new topic called "COMMUNICATION". She would like to invite you to share your ideas about communication...you can leave her a message at hoganl@kawaha-point.school.nz or come in and see her to share your aspirations and ideas for this terms topic or leave a positive post. Communication: You need a message, you need a way of sending that message, you need a person at the other end to receive the message.
Can you guess what message this picture is sending? Who might be receiving this message and where do you think this message might have come from? How do you know that?
